FAQ
What does CMH?
CMH stands for Center for Hyperbaric Medicine.
What is Hyperbaric Medicine?
MEDICINE HYPERBARIC is the branch of science that studies the physiological and pathophysiological changes of living beings subjected to higher than atmospheric pressures (DIVE, EMPLOYEES UNDER PRESSURE, HYPERBARIC CAMERA) in its adaptation to the environment and therapy together with their pathologies associated.
What is Hyperbaric Oxygen?
"Hyperbaric oxygenation treatment is a type, in which high partial pressures of oxygen in the body, based on pure oxygen inside a hyperbaric chamber at a higher than normal atmospheric pressure are obtained" .
What is the mechanism of action of hyperbaric oxygenation?
Respired oxygen pressure, dissolved in the plasma, which is a component of the blood, according to a physical law. Thus large quantities of oxygen in arterial and venous blood, which is used by the tissues, not requiring the presence of red blood cells are achieved. Such high levels of oxygen are the causal effects of different hyperbaric oxygenation such as anti-infectious, desedematizante, detoxifying, forming new blood vessels, stimulating the formation of collagen, which means an increase of the speed of healing, etc. .
What benefits have HBO?
When HBO are properly administered the following potential benefits for the body:
Reduction of gas bubbles
Delivery of greater amounts of oxygen to damaged tissue
Promoting the formation of blood vessels, especially in the micro-circulation, increase blood flow to
Reduction of edema
Reduction and inactivation of some infections
Promotion of wound healing
Preservation of tissues involved
Stimulation of new bone formation
Reducing the effects of some specific toxic substances
What applications have HBO?
HBO is applied for:
Recovery of tissues suffering
Refractory lesions, frequent relapses
Injuries requiring surgical debridement or amputation
Clinical conditions in which it is the only treatment
Serious and / or complex lesions
Failure to respond to conventional treatments
Rapid deterioration with death riezgo
What diseases can be treated?
Diabetic Foot Wounds Chronic, Refractory Osteomyelitis, Deafness Sudden, Carbon Monoxide Poisoning, Gas Gangrene Clostridium, Tissue Damage Caused by Radiation Acute Ischemia and / or Crush Injury, Compartment Syndrome, Necrotizing Infections, Necrotizing cellulitis, fasciitis, Bedsores Ulcers legs and feet, Acute Anemia, Acute Thermal Burns, Skin Grafts or Flaps Committed, Multiple Sclerosis, Consolidation of fractures, Soda Arterial Embolism Cerebral Decompression Sickness (EDI), Osteoradionecrosis, among others.
How long does a session of HBO?
The session duration may vary from 60 to 90 minutes depending on the type of pathology the patient.
Does the patient is only during the session?
The patient was escorted throughout the session by trained personnel, who can ask or let you know of any discomfort with no problem
How does it feel during treatment in the chamber?
Once inside the hyperbaric chamber, the doors close and start entering oxygen, depending on whether the camera is multiplaza or car. This creates a noise like hiss; immediately will feel the only manifestation of the pressure on the body, and a feeling of pressure in the ears. This occurs because the pressure moves the eardrum inward, giving the sensation of "clogged ear". To uncover, there are different procedures; swallow is one very easy; open big mouth, which is usually not effective in all patients; and the most effective and reliable, is what is called the Valsalva maneuver and is hold your nose and try to blow through it; as is blocked, the air will pass through the Eustachian tube into the middle ear eardrum moving out. If this is not done, the eardrum is moving in and starts to hurt. Any discomfort should be communicated to the specialist.
How should a patient prepare for a treatment?
It is prohibited to enter the chamber with metallic elements, lighters or pens and electronic elements (tel. cell, electronic games, etc..). In none of the cases the patient will be required to do the fasting treatment, however, there should be eaten, as it was observed a decrease in blood glucose levels during and immediately after treatment.
How do I know you doctor before each treatment?
If cold, nasal or bronchial congestion, flu, possibility of pregnancy, if there have been changes in medication that usually takes is presented.
How many sessions should a patient to see improvements?
Depending on the type of pathology and the patient. Usually performed for 10 to 40 sessions, extending the treatment in certain cases. The improved open wound injury where there is observed (in most cases) in the 2nd session where the tissue is revitalized weak acquires color back. And burnt in the poly traumatized decreased edema observed in 1st session. Improvements in infections observed from the 2nd-3rd Session, where lower infection indicators parameters (white blood cell number, heritrosedimentación, etc.). In cases of vascular and arterial ulcers there is a latency period ranging from the 5th to 7th Session and then present a rapidly growing tissue at the 7th session 21VA. Generally observed in all conditions improved overall, recovering the humor, care for elderly patients and getting a better quality of life
Do you have any contraindications?
Fever of unknown origin, pneumothorax without treatment, pregnancy, epilepsy without proper medication, congenital spherocytosis, and intake of certain medications such as disulfiram, doxorubicin, cis-platinum, of Mafenide acetate may be absolute contraindications
